The indoor air has always a large amount of small particles that float around and can irritate. Some examples include the textile and paper dust, mineral wool fibers, polishes from felskötta linoleum, soot and other particles from the fuel or engine exhaust, tobacco smoke, mold spores and bacteria. The latter four types of particles (from soot) are very small, down to a few nanometers (10-9 m), while the first five can have a size of more than 10 microns (10-5 m). The smallest particles, is the air and can penetrate deep into the lungs, while the largest are usually trapped in the nose and throat where they can irritate. On particles can sit molecules of annoying and difficult volatiles, eg. tars and allergens. The perception of "dry air" is often due to particles in the air.
